there's someone there to say hello*

I went to see Gnomeo & Juliet today.  It's kind of a father/daughter tradition, we go out to see all those cheesy animated movies.  It was cute, kinda funny, but I wouldn't recommend it.  Then, we went to Salah Edin.  It's this little restaurant in Paterson.  From the outside, it looks like another Arabic sandwich shop, but when you go to the back, it's a quiet little restaurant with the best shawarma sandwiches.  If you don't know what shawarma is, it's basically a pita wrapped around sliced tomato, onion, pickle, and lettuce with meat (either chicken, beef, lamb, or veal) and sauce.  My dad grew up in Saudi Arabia, so he's used to this kind of food.  This restaurant is also super cheap, but the food is great quality.  We got falafel, hummus, pita, 3 shawarma, and 3 drinks all for $20.  I knew we'd be walking around outside and it's cold (we just got more snow last night) so I came up with this super cozy outfit.

I started with gray tights.  But these aren't your average tights.  These are tights made for athletes who are running outside in winter.  So they're thicker, warmer and more comfortable than most tights, but they still look cute.  To brighten up all the grays, I added a blue burnout tank from Delia's.  Over that, I threw on my favorite gray cardigan from Love Culture and a silver owl necklace (also Love Culture--love that store).  To get even more warmth, I pulled on knee-high black chevron socks and then gray suede boots.  I promise, you'll be warm in this outfit.

What do you wear when you want to be warm and cute?  Let me know in the comments!

Love, Lex.

Inspired By ... Jasmine!

Welcome to the second edition of my Inspired By Disney Princesses feature.  Today, I'm going to show you an outfit inspired by Jasmine from Aladdin.  Jasmine is the daughter of the Sultan of Agrabah.  As a princess, she is trapped behind the castle walls.  The sultan's evil advisor Jafar has hatched a plan to find a lamp with a genie that can grant him three wishes and make him the new sultan.  Jafar finds out that a peasant named Aladdin is the only one who can unlock the secret cave in which the lamp is hidden.  Jasmine, while disguised as a beggar, meets Aladdin and the two fall in love.  Jafar captures him against Jasmine's wishes.  Aladdin is tricked into finding the lamp in the cave, but ends up trapped inside of it.  Finding the Genie, Aladdin and his monkey trick the Genie into getting them out of the cave.  As his first wish, Aladdin wants to become a prince so that he can marry Jasmine.  The Genie makes him Prince Ali Ababwa and gives him a grand entrance into Agrabah.  Meanwhile, Jafar has come up with a new plan to be sultan:  all he has to do is marry Jasmine.  However, Aladdin has convinced the sultan that he will make a good husband for the princess.  He takes Jasmine on a magic carpet ride.  Jafar captures Aladdin and attempts to kill him by drowning him, but Genie saves him.  When he comes back, Sultan chooses Aladdin as Jasmine's husband instead of Jafar.  When Jafar sees the lamp sticking out of Aladdin's pocket, he realizes his secret and steals the lamp.  Jafar wishes himself to be sultan and banishes Aladdin.  However, Aladdin sneaks back into the palace and fights Jafar for the lamp.  He finally convinces Jafar to wish for himself to be a genie, sucking him back into the lamp.  Aladdin and Jasmine live happily ever after.

So here's the outfit I came up with.  I decided to go with a blue romper because it's comfortable, flowy, and it can be dressed up or down.  I added a black and gold statement necklace because the romper is completely plain.  I paired it with gold gladiator sandals and gold and turquoise earrings.  Next, I found a tiger bracelet, which is symbolic of Jasmine's pet tiger.  Black winged liner would complement this look perfectly, along with a sand-colored manicure.

So, what do you think?  Would you wear a tiger head bracelet?

Love, Lex.

Inspired By...Belle!

Our first princess is Belle from Beauty and the Beast.  She lives in a small French village and is constantly tormented by an egotistical man named Gaston trying to win her affection.  One day, her father, Maurice gets lost in the woods and wanders into the Beast's castle.  The Beast finds him and throws him in the dungeon.  When Maurice doesn't return, Belle is worried and searches for him.  She finds her way to the castle and promises to stay in the castle instead of her father.  The Beast allows her to, and gives her a room.  She meets the servants, who are disguised as household objects.  Maurice returns to the village, asking for help to save his daughter.  The villagemen call him crazy, so he goes to search alone.  Belle finds out that her father is lost in the woods, and the Beast lets her go find him.  When she returns Maurice to the village, Gaston asks for her hand in marriage or else he will take her father to the asylum.  She refuses, telling him about the Beast.  Gaston convinces the village that the Beast is a threatening monster, and the go to kill him.  When they arrive, the Beast lets Gaston fight him because he doesn't think that he will ever see Belle again.  Gaston stabs the Beast just in time for Belle to arrive.  When Belle sees the Beast dying, she sobs, whispering that she loves him.  These words cure the Beast, lifting his curse.  He comes back to life, the servants become human again, the castle's beauty is restored, and the Beast turns into a handsome prince.  Him and Belle live happily ever after.

~Outfit #1~

The first outfit is Belle's daytime wear.  She wears a white puff-sleeved shirt with a blue dress and a white apron as she goes through life in the village.  I swapped out the dress/shirt combo for trendy wide leg trouser jeans and a white eyelet tunic.  I paired it with suede platform pumps and a leather hobo bag (much more chic than Belle's basket!).  For the yes, I think a simple brown kohl pencil will work and throw on an Eiffel Tower necklace because she is French, after all.

~Outfit #2~

The second outfit is based on Belle's gold ball gown.  It's a gorgeous tiered, off-shoulder dress.  I replaced it with a ruffled one-shoulder dress.  I wanted to go for a boho-y vibe with this outfit, so I added green suede wedges and brown accessories.  To emulate the symbolic rose, I chose dark pink nail polish and a matching lip stain.  Throw in a bronze smokey eye, and done.

So, what do you think?  Do you like Belle's style?  Tell me in the comments!

Love, Lex.

Inspired By the Disney Princesses

This is the start of my second InspiredBy series.  This one features the Disney Princesses:  Belle, Jasmine, Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White, and Aurora.  Growing up, I adored these girls.  My personal favorite was Ariel.  I guess I've always loved the ocean.  Every girl wants to wear a princess dress, but that's not always appropriate.  Instead, I'll be showing you modern outfits based on these lovely ladies.

Now tell me, who's your favorite Disney princess?

OOTD: Downward Dog

Hey there chicas!  Time for some yoga!
Just kidding, but here's a yogatastic outfit in case you do actually feel like finding your inner peace.  If not, it's still a pretty comfortable look.  You start with yoga pants (duh!) and a navy blue v-neck.  Next I threw on a bright blue striped scarf that was also super soft.  I matched my eyeliner to the scarf with Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in ELECTRIC.  And, of course, I pulled on my trusty UGGs before heading out the door.  You can add a coordinating cardigan if you're feeling a little chilly.  Other than that, you're done.
And you're also super comfortable.
And also completely ready in case you're in a life/death situation that involves yoga.

Love, Lex.

OOTD: Easy Basics

Let me start by saying, this outfit is the easiest thing on the planet.  You probably have every single piece in your closet already.  Start with your favorite skinny jeans.  Or the ones you hate the most.  It doesn't really matter, as long as they're skinny jeans and they're a basic shade of blue.  Now, find a lace-trim tank.  I'm sure you have one.  Dig a little.  If you really can't find one, any solid color tank will work, but I think the lace adds some detail.  Oh, and make sure it's bright, otherwise you'll just look like a boring blob.  Next, you will need a white henley.  Or a deep v-neck, or any other solid white shirt that will show the tank top.  Then, you're going to need a long necklace.  Mine has feathers.  Maybe yours has bows, or hearts, or jellyfish, who knows.  Just make sure it doesn't have any color, and it should hit below the exposed area of the tank top.  I like cluster necklaces best, but that's just my preference.  Pull on some comfy UGGs, and that's it.  Seriously, that's it.
The key part of this outfit is that tank top.  It's the only bright color, so it draws attention upwards.  It's like magic.
With this outfit, I just wore basic brown eyeliner, barely visible, but just enough to make my lashes look a little thicker.  That's all you need to do!
You're welcome. :)

Love, Lex.

Outfit Idea: Simply Sexy

I haven't posted an outfit idea in awhile, and I think you'll like this one.
It starts with some basics:  your favorite dark wash jeggings (or skinny jeans, but I think jeggings make it more comfortable) and a light blue button-down.  This would also work with a white button-down, but I chose a blue one from Old Navy (affordable!).  Now comes the sexy:  matching red lipstick and nail polish and cheetah print peep-toes.  I chose peep-toes so you can show of your red pedicure, because I think the red with cheetah print makes a great combination.  I was inspired by these Louboutins, actually.  It's comfortable because of the jeggings, but the cheetah and the red accents amp it up.  What do you think?

NOTD: Flirty Onyx

Here it is, I'm finally posting my paint-splatter nail art.  I used Essie Flirty Fuchsia and OPI Black Onyx.  I took this picture about 3 days into the manicure, so there's tip wear.  I followed this video from BargainPrincess on YouTube, but it didn't come out the way I wanted it to because the pink was too thin and the black was too thick.  And I had lost my dotting tool.  So basically, this whole manicure was a major fail.  But I wanted to show you lovelies, anyway.  Because that's how much I love you.

OOTD: Sunny Skies

Hello, ladies!
Sorry this post is so late.  I meant to post this earlier, but here's what happened.  I made the set on Polyvore, but then something came up and I had to get off the computer, and for some reason, the next time I went back online, I thought I had posted this already.  Whatever.  Here it is...
I started with skinny jeans and a butterfly tank top from American Eagle.  I threw on my Love Culture cardigan (unbottoned) and bracelet from my haul.  I added my DIY circle scarf and SHAZAM!  Instant happiness.  I mean seriously, it's hard not to smile when you're wearing something so bright.  Try it!
Once again, I apologize for the delay.  It was worth it thought, wasn't it?
No?  Well, I'll keep trying.
That's all for now!

Love, Lex.

OOTD/FOTD: SuperBoho

So, who watched the SuperBowl?

...NOT ME.
I just don't like football.  I went to a SuperBowl party, but I only actually watched the halftime show.  I loved the whole Usher falling out of the sky thing.  And the glowing bodysuits...can I get one of those?
Anyway, here's what I wore to the party.  It's a boho-y, easy, kinda look and it was really comfortable.  I started with this top from Kohl's (you read that right, KOHL'S) and my favorite AE skinny jeans.  I added UGGs, a pearl cluster necklace from Wet Seal, and the silver charm bracelet from my haul on Saturday.
I lined my eyes with Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Mildew (the name sucks, but it's a beautiful mossy green) and I added a peachy lip gloss from Forever21.  I absolutely love this lip gloss, but they don't sell it anymore...boo. :(

So, what did you do for the SuperBowl?  Who were you rooting for?  More importantly, what did you wear?  Let me know in the comments!

DIY: Circle Scarf

Are you ready for my first DIY?!  I made a circle scarf using the instructions from this video by BrittneyNGray.  I made mine with one large, yellow t-shirt, and I think it came out pretty well.  Here are my results:

It's nice and bright, which will bring some color to my winter wardrobe.  Here's how it looks wrapped twice:
This one's more close-up, so you can see the edges where my cutting got screwed up.  Oh, well.  I think I'm gonna make a two-toned scarf next, using two t-shirts I found.  They're two different shades of brown, so I hope it'll make a nice, cozy scarf.  This was an extremely easy project, no sewing required.  All you need are scissors and a t-shirt, really.  So so simple!  If you try it, let me know how it turns out!  Send me a picture.

Weekly Goals: 2nd Edition

It's a new week, lovelies!  Time for my latest weekly goals.
But first, we reflect on last week (strikethrough means the goal has been completed)...

~Last Week's Goals~

Tidy/Organize entire bedroom.

Come up with ways to incorporate my summer wardrobe into winter.

Start wearing more accessories.

Color combinations: black-and-white with orange, yellow, or red; purple/yellow; blue/orange.

Keep updating my lookbook.

Make a DIY scarf.

Find ways to use my Bedazzler

Lemme count...that's four out of seven.  More than half, but I hope that this week, I'll be better than that.  I actually came up with an outfit using black/white/yellow, but I couldn't find my black leggings, so it didn't work out too well.  Let's move on to this week...

~Weekly Goals~

Come up with ways to incorporate my summer wardrobe into winter.  And then translate these ideas into an outfit.

Color combinations:  black/white/yellow, purple/yellow, blue/orange.

Find ways to use my Bedazzler.  Do you have any ideas you can share with me, dolls?

Remove my current nail polish.  Oh, and I need to get around to posting my most recent NOTD.  And I think I'm going to give my nails a break from polish, maybe give them a strengthening treatment.

Make a collage for my locker.  It needs some pizazz.

Upload music from all my old CD's.  I want to create some CD art, maybe.

Organize my bulletin board.  I have a magnetic board and it tends to get covered with random papers that I'm too lazy to put away.

Finish transferring all my pre-midterm notes out of my notebooks/binders.  It's the second semester, time for some spring cleaning!

Polish all my silver jewelry.  I finally bought some silver polish, now all I have to do is actually use it.

That's all for now, what are you lovelies doing this week?

Love, Lex.

Haul: Willowbrook Mall

I went shopping yesterday, with one of my fabulous best friends, Alyssa.  I set a budget for myself--$25.  You read that right.  TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS.  And I managed to buy myself some gorgeous.  You wanna see?  Oh, I know you do.

Deep V-Neck Cardigan from Love Culture ($12.90).  The website doesn't show this color (jade), I'm not sure why.  It's a beautiful turquoise cardigan with gold buttons.  I have a dark gray cardigan (also Love Culture) and a navy blue one (Forever21), so I've been looking for a lighter, brighter one, and I finally found it!  It was on a mannequin, and I literally screamed at my friend, "Alyssa, thats it!  I NEED THAT CARDIGAN!"  Then, I ran into Love Culture and searched the entire store until I found it.  I'm so excited, I've already envisioned at least ten outfits with it.  I think I'm in loovvvee...

Braided Bead Cuff from Love Culture ($2.90).  I know what you're thinking.  And yes, I did buy it to match the cardigan.  I was trying to choose between this one, and one that was all blue, so I asked my friend Alyssa.  "Well, the yellow one, obviously.  You can wear it with the cardigan!"  So I did.  And also, I don't have any other yellow accessories besides this one, so I'm excited to try something new.

Bow, Heart, & Bird Charm Bracelet from Wet Seal ($6.00).  I don't have anything like this, and I've been looking for a silver charm bracelet for awhile.  I absolutely love this one.  In case you can't see clearly, there's a little silver ball, then a bow, a pearl wrapped in silver leaves, a detailed heart, a little rhinestone ball, a bird, a rose, and another pearl.  It's so feminine and detailed.

That's all for now, my loves.  I spent a total of $21.80, which was under my budget, and I'm proud of myself! How about you guys?  Did you go shopping this weekend?  Tell me what you got in the comments!

Love, Lex.

OOTD: Black & Vesty

Oh, wow, it's been a long time since I've done one of these.  I'm so tired of sweaters.  I really am.  And this morning, I just couldn't wear another sweater.  I just couldn't do it.  So, I said "screw you" to the cold winter air and I wore short sleeves.  Rebellious, I know.  And I had found this black cardi vest from PacSun when I was cleaning out my closet.  It's kinda old, so I couldn't find it online, the one up there from Vans is pretty close though.  I really wanted to wear it, so I came up with this pink and black combination.  I paired my vest with a pink Abercrombie tee similar to this one and my favorite AE skinny jeans.  I accessorized with my black suede boots and a long silver cluster necklace.  My necklace was also from PacSun, similar to this one, except mine is all silver with 3 different size feathers, a small bird, and a grayish jewel.  My makeup was black winged eyeliner and simple lip gloss (more on that later).  That's all for now, bye!

Weekly Goals, 1st Edition

I've decided to start a new weekly feature:  Weekly Goals.  Here I'll post what I hope to complete by the end of this week.  Let's get started!

~Weekly Goals~

Tidy/Organize my entire bedroom.  My room furniture consists off 3 sets of shelves under my windows against one wall, a desk with a hutch, a nighttable, and a dresser.  I already finished organize the dresser drawers and the shelving, I just need to complete the top of the dresser, the desk, and the nighttable.

Come up with ways to incorporate my summer wardrobe into winter.  I am getting so tired of the same sweaters and long sleeved tops all winter long, so I'm trying to find ways to throw in my bright, summery, tanks and tees.  This will probably involve cardigans.  Many, many cardigans.

Start wearing more accessories.  Most mornings, I focus on my clothes and makeup and leave no time for accessories.  The most I'll do is my standard white belt, which I really only wear if my jeans are feeling loose.  Sometimes, I'll remember to put on a necklace, but that's rare.  I'm hoping, now that I've organized all my jewelry, to actually start wearing it.  Especially the bracelets and earrings, those are the most neglected.

Wear the following color combinations, somehow, someway:  black-and-white with orange, yellow, or red; purple and yellow; blue and orange.  I'm not totally sure how I'm going to do this, but I want to incorporate more bright colors into my basic outfits.

Keep updating my lookbook.  That's right, I started a lookbook.  It's actually really fun.  I've got it all set up in an old three-ring binder.  In it, I've put one of those three-hole punches that fits inside a binder.  I use plain white printer paper and cut pictures of outfits, makeup looks, and inspirational sayings from magazines like Teen Vogue.

Make a DIY scarf, from this video I found on YouTube.  I want to make one in yellow and one in black.

Find ways to use this Bedazzler I found in my basement.  It's old, judging by the dust all over the box, but it's unopened and I really want to find something to bedazzle.  If I end up making that black scarf, I think I might put some silver studs on it.  I think I could also find a basic tank top to bedazzle.

That's it for my goals this week.  Now you tell me, what are your goals?  Do you have any tips for my goals (organizing tips, outfit ideas, Bedazzling possibilities...)?  Let me know in the comments!

Wishlist: February '11

Can you believe it's already February?  Yesterday was the first day of the second semester at my school, and I can't believe we're halfway through the year already!  Anyway, I've decided to start doing monthly wishlists, so here's to February...

~February '11 Wishlist~
Dolman tunics.  I absolutely love tunics--with skinny jeans, leggings, or tights, I think they're so fabulous and comfortable.  And I especially love dolman sleeves.  So a dolman tunic?  My idea of perfection.

Abstract & floral skirts.  For awhile, I was never really a skirt girl.  I don't really know why, but I just didn't like skirts.  But now, for some reason, I've been inspired, and I want to buy a whole bunch of printed minis.  I especially love them in bright floral and abstract prints.  They can be worn with opaque black tights while it's cold, or alone when it's warm.  I need to get me some skirts!

Cardigans in every color.  I love cardigans, I really do.  Especially the long, flowy type.  Right now, I have a dark gray cardigan and a navy blue, but I'm looking to get some in brighter hues.  Preferably, every color of the rainbow...a girl can dream, right?

Off shoulder tees.  I have always been obsessed with off-shoulder tops.  And I really need something black-and-white striped.  So this top from Alloy is absolutely perfect.  They have them in 16 different colors, and I WANT THEM ALLLL!

Printed rain boots.  It has been snowing for like, two weeks straight here.  The snowpiles from the plows are almost as tall as I am, and the snow and salt is ruining my suede boots.  I hate the look of snowshoes, so I'm thinkin' rain boots with legwarmers or fuzzy socks tucked into them would do the trick, right?  How about some cute boots, bright blue legwarmers, black leggings, and that gorgeous blue tunic up there?  I die.  And come spring, you can keep wearing them.  I want to get a fun print, and I love anything zebra, so zebra rain boots would be my ultimate shoe.

Bright knit scarves.  I neeeed scarves.  I have about 4, but I want more.  And bright, of course, to warm up these drab winter days.

Now, loves, tell me what you want this month?  What's on your shopping list?

Mood:  chill :)
